The Line that the Dems Will Take Back the Senate in 2016 is Wrong
The conventional wisdom of the Dems taking the Senate back in 2016 is wrong because in six years of the Obama Presidency the only thing we can be certain of is that he will gradually sink in the polls. That is the historical fact of his Presidency and is what has happened over the course of six years.
His official lame duck status will begin after this year’s mid-terms, only compounding his problems.
Obama caused the Dems to lose control of the U.S. House.
According to every credible predictive election algorithm, Obama is about to cause the loss of the U.S. Senate too.
And some how, according to Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, we are supposed to believe that two more years of his Presidency will put the Dems back in control the U.S. Senate?
Right. Sure. OK. Whatever.
Maybe if the Dems can exert some influence over Obama, and some how mitigate his worst impulses, they can prevent more serial policy and political disasters, but they haven’t been able to do that in the last six years, and I doubt they will be able to do it in the next two years and thirty-eight days (not that I’m counting).
