New 2019-nCoV Infections Confirms WHO Mortality Rate Estimate of 2%
The official Chinese number of infected (8,100) plus the other 100 infections in other countries, makes the total official global number of humans infected with 2019-nCoV at 8,200.
There have been 171 deaths.
This means, using the most recent Chinese official government and 100 infections in other countries, the updated 2019-nCoV mortality rate is:
171/8,200 x 100 = 2.1%
This means that out of 100 people infected, 2 will die from the virus. It is important to note that the vast majority of deaths so far have been those who are elderly and have pre-existing conditions, and mostly male.
The mortality rate of seasonal flu is 0.1%, meaning 99.9% of those infected survive. But even with a mortality rate of 0.1% (1 in 1,000 die) for seasonal flu, 60,000 Americans died from the flu last year.
